Cost to change brakes on 2001 Grand Am?

My dad bought me this car in november and the brakes are REALLY squeaky! How much will it cost and is there anywhere that i can go that will do it cheaper than the local pontiac dealership?

I would suggest take the car to a recomened shop. Why would the girl above say to go to the deaership? Maybe because she works at one and does not want to tell you that they rip you off. One example, a honda dealership diagnosed a problem as a computer problem, said it would cost $1100. Took the car to a shop and it ended up being an O2 sensor, $100. Take the car to a shop and get it fixed. Most likey run you $150-$250. Depending on the condition of the rotors.

It depends on what all has to be replaced such as rotors, pads, calipers, etc...try some local shops that do free estimates.

This site may have some recommended shops in your area.....

If its just the pads it will probably be around 75
Almost any shop is cheaper than the dealer. look up in the yellow pages for places that specialize in brakes and mufflers. For brakes, they usually charge so much per axle (2 wheels). They also guarentee them - usually for so many miles or a year, etc.
I suggest to always take the car to the dealership. You would not believe how many cars come in to my shop complaining of squeaky brakes and they have cheap after market pads. Another thing that other shops like to do is discard the shims(help reduce sound) and a lot of them do not resurface the rotors when they do a brake job. The dealership is slightly more expensive, but you are gonna have GM techs working on your vehicle that have the proper knowledge to repair and they do not skip steps. The dealership also uses higeher quality factory pads which lasts longer and have more quiet operation.
