Are car brakes on a toyota prius hybrid easy to change? ?

Are they the same as any other car brakes other than the fact that they regenerate the electric motor?

Same as any other Toyota. Front discs, rear drums (in the USA anyway). %26quot;Regenerative brakes%26quot; just means that the drive train can slow the car by converting motion to electricity in the generator. The brakes themselves are nothing special.

By the way: Are you sure that you NEED to change the brakes? The regenerative braking will make the load on the %26quot;actual%26quot; brakes much less than on other cars, so they tend to last a long time. Over 100,000 miles is very common.

i would get a manual for the vehicle, or take it to the shop,
In North America, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, while elsewhere it is 4-wheel disc brakes.

Replace the pads/rotors just as you would with any other car.

You might want to download the brakes section of the repair manuals for some help:

US (and maybe Canada): http://techinfo.toyota.com/

Europe and UK (and maybe Australia): http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/

I've seen some people post that they've done their own Prius brake changes here:

and on the repairs/maintenance/technical forums on:

If you are a normal or high-mileage driver, expect to have long service intervals between brake jobs, as the current Prius uses the conventional hydraulic brakes rarely, during panic stops or speeds lower than about 7mph. If you are a low-mileage driver (like I am - about 53,000 miles on my 2001 Prius, and my mother at about 67,000 miles on her 2002 Prius), then you'll probably have an increased service interval, as your brake pads will get worn out prematurely thanks to rust buildup from non-use.
