A car is traveling at 30 mph on a level road when the brakes are applied to bring it to a screaching halt?

a) Describe any change in the car's potential energy, if there is any.

b) Describe any change in the car's kinetic energy, if there is any.

c) During the stop sound is created and the tires become hot. Where did the energy for these actions come from? This is an example of what basic principle of science?

PLEASE HELP !
A car is traveling at 30 mph on a level road when the brakes are applied to bring it to a screaching halt?
a) There is no change in potential energy since the position of the car did not change within the gravitational field (meaning you stayed at the same height while in the car).

b) The car's kinetic energy was decreased as the velocity of the vehicle was decreased KE=.5mv^2 shows this.

c) This is an example of conservation of energy. The energy required for this action came from the kinetic energy, since energy cannot be created or destroyed that kinetic energy had to go somewhere so it went into the braking system which gave off heat energy and sound energy.
